Written in an unusual style; Part fact part fiction, the question is which part is truth and which part is fantasy. This story starts out deceptively as an adventure story for boys , written in an authentic immature boyish autobiographic style with scant regard to punctuation. It is, however, just a 'red herring', as following chapters plunge the, by then, teenager, headlong into a life he had not chosen for himself and for which he was both Physically and mentally ill equipped. A rare and fascinating glimpse into life in an army camp is followed by the introduction of some mysterious characters who seem to know much more about the young squaddie than he knows himself. Even adulthood and civilian life offer very little respite from his destiny. Throughout the story these men constantly reappear and manipulate him into all sorts of clandestine missions including a rather dangerous excursion into Northern Ireland during 'the Troubles' The reader may recognize several real life events that made national News Headlines and is left wondering; 'was the author really there?' 'Is that really what happened?' So, what was it really all about? Why was this seemingly ordinary young man so important? Lastly of course; the ultimate question, ' What, if anything has any of this to do with a CUP? All is revealed in later chapters
