I have found that having the correct environment is conducive to writing. You do not have to have a secluded cottage by the beach, although that would help. You need to have a place where you are peaceful and uninterrupted. Somewhere where it is just you and your characters.
I write my best stories when there is a thunderstorm. Probably because I am more of a horror writer lol. There is something about lightning, howling winds and thunder that sets my creative juices flowing.
I have also found that peaceful music helps me to concentrate on the task at hand. Inspiration unfortunately does not come whenever you need it, and I find that the music helps to get me in the right mood for writing.
A word of warning though; make sure all your other responsibilities are up to date before you start. There is nothing more irritating to be flying through the keyboard at top speed with a million ideas, then remembering the dishes are waiting to be done!
Make sure you have a certain time of day (or night) that you set aside to write each day. Even if it is only ten words, it is ten words closer to the completion of your novel. Remember, you are doing this because you have something to say. Enjoy doing it, and never stop writing.
